CARNEGIE THEATRE PARENT BOOSTER

OUR MISSION

Carnegie Vanguard Theatre Booster, Inc. is an organization committed to supporting and encouraging the enrichment of students through participation in theatre at Carnegie Vanguard High School.

Carnegie Vanguard Theatre Booster, is a qualified 501(3)(c) tax-exempt non-profit organization. To achieve our goals, we work with students, parents, educators, and the arts community to raise funding for our various theatre programming at CVHS for which public funding is unavailable or insufficient. Carnegie Vanguard Theatre Booster organized in 2016 to address the growing needs of the Carnegie Theatre Department including specialized equipment, production support, theatre upkeep, and participation in conferences and competitions.

Our campus is located at 1501 Taft and is home to the Carnegie Theatre. The Settegast Building is a former Orange Crush bottling plant, one of Houston's rare surviving Art Deco buildings. Renovations to Carnegie's visual arts building began in 2012. Designed by Moore & Lloyd and built in 1938, the building houses our 120-seat theatre. In 2012 HISD initially covered the basic renovation costs, but Carnegie's PTO raised $350,000 to cover things such as sound equipment for the theater.  The $350,000 did not include luxuries we currently find needing. They include specialty equipment; exterior theatre signage; lighing, and ongoing production costs.  Please visit our Parent Booster pages to learn how you can help be a FRIEND OF CARNEGIE THEATRE.

Carnegie Vanguard High School had its start in the fall of 2002 as the successor to the highly successful school-within-a-school Vanguard program at Jesse H. Jones Senior High which was created in 1977.  CVHS has been named a National Blue Ribbon School and ranked as one of the top ten schools in the United States by US News & World Report and The Washington Post. CVHS is a small gem within Houston Independent School District. Known as the only campus-wide Vanguard program, the student Rhinos perform with high caliber results. In 2018, 340 Freshmen students enrolled growing the campus to 816 Rhinos. Participation in theatre has grown alongside the campus population.
