‘WE SEE YOU, WHITE AMERICAN THEATER’

Above is a testimonial statement crafted by a nation-wide, leaderless collective of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) theatremakers: multi-generational, multi-disciplinary, early career, emerging, and established theater managers, executives, students, administrators, dramaturges, and producers. This statement addresses the scope and pervasiveness of anti-Blackness and racism in the American theater, exposing the indignities and racism that BIPOC, and in particular Black theatremakers, face on a day-to-day basis.

Below is the associated petition that demands change for an equitable, inclusive, diverse, and accountable industry that protects its marginalized and BIPOC voices.

We stand on this ground with BIPOC theatremakers.

Signed, Carnegie Theatre Co.
